Wings Wins Silver at The 2025 LYG
Event: London Youth Games – Indoor Rowing
Date: Sunday 9 June 2025
Venue: Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub
Participants: 3 athletes from Brixton Wings
Event Summary
On Sunday 9 June, three young athletes from Brixton Wings proudly represented Lambeth at the London Youth Games Indoor Rowing Competition, held at the Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub. The event brought together top talent from across London for a full day of high-energy racing and borough pride.
This competition marked an important milestone for participants in our Tuesday evening Indoor Rowing Programme, based at Brixton Recreation Centre. Led by our dedicated coach Tunde, the program focuses on building strength, technique, and discipline through regular indoor training on rowing machines.
Each week, Coach Patrick guides participants through structured warm-ups, technique drills, and performance tracking. Emphasis is placed on personal bests (PBs) and seasonal goal setting, preparing our young athletes not only for competition, but also for long-term personal growth and resilience.
At Gunnersbury Park, our athletes brought their training to life. Competing in individual time trials, they demonstrated power, consistency, and composure. Their performances reflected the effort and discipline they’ve developed in training and served as a powerful example of the potential that structured, youth-led sport can unlock.
Each of our athletes brought their own strengths and stories to the competition: Duvar delivered an outstanding performance in his category, earning a silver medal in his individual race. His focus, discipline, and drive are a testament to the work he’s put in during weekly training sessions. Duvar continues to set an inspiring example for others in the programme.
Ashley brought great focus and determination to the competition. While the results didn’t reflect her full potential on the day, her performance showed real promise. With her positive attitude and growing experience, she’s already looking ahead to next year with renewed motivation.
Osaze made great progress compared to last year’s performance. His improved time and technique were a reflection of his hard work and consistency. Seeing that progress in action reminds us why regular support and long-term investment in young people matters.
Programme Outcomes
Three athletes from Brixton Wings competed. Two set personal bests. One finished on the podium. Participants felt more confident and proud. Team spirit and motivation increased after the event. Athletes showed good race planning and pacing. The group noted the importance of hard work and consistency. All three athletes committed to future training.
