Our students had a truly unique and memorable experience as we warmly welcomed Aasan Manimaran, a master Parai drummer and dedicated social justice activist from Chennai, India. Representing Buddhar Kalai Kuzhu, a highly respected and renowned arts and activist collective based in Tamil Nadu, Aasan Manimaran led an engaging and powerful, hands-on workshop. He introduced the ancient and dynamic art of Parai drumming, which is recognised as one of the oldest and most significant percussion traditions in South Asia.

Twelve talented young musicians from Brixton Wings took to the stage at the Angell Town Big Lunch & Car-Free Day. Held just outside our youth centre, this vibrant community event brought together residents of all ages for a joyful day filled with delicious food, celebration, and creative activities. Our band delivered an energetic and memorable performance, providing the perfect soundtrack to the afternoon’s festivities.

Delivered in partnership with upCYCLE LDN and Imperial College London Design Engineering student Alex Clarke, the session invited participants to co-create a full-scale wooden bicycle frame using salvaged parts and collaborative problem-solving. It was more than just a build it was a deep dive into design thinking, mechanics, and creativity.

On Sunday 9 June, three young athletes from Brixton Wings proudly represented Lambeth at the London Youth Games Indoor Rowing Competition, held at the Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub. The event brought together top talent from across London for a full day of high-energy racing and borough pride.

This Easter, Brixton Wings delivered a vibrant and enriching Holiday Activities Program (HAP), bringing together creative, practical, and inspiring sessions that supported young people’s growth, wellbeing, and future aspirations.

The February half-term in 2025 saw a successful Winter Holiday Activities Program (HAP) that offered young people enjoyable and skill-building activities in a safe environment. Thanks to our parents, supporters, teachers, and volunteers, we provided various activities that encouraged confidence, creativity, and lifelong skills.

We are immensely grateful for Hatty’s Fund, a heartfelt initiative that continues to transform the lives of young people in our community. Hatty was a passionate lover of music, and in her memory, Hatty’s Fund was established to provide young musicians with access to high-quality instruments they might not otherwise afford.

In an unforgettable experience at the National Theatre, eight young people from Brixton Wings recently attended Coriolanus, exploring themes of political power and citizen influence. The trip was more than just a performance; it was a journey into the world of live theatre, with its immersive set designs and an inspiring, diverse cast.

Natalie recently achieved a Distinction in her Grade 5 ABRSM Music exam, a milestone made possible by her dedication and the support of Brixton Wings. We had the chance to ask Natalie about her journey and how Brixton Wings has impacted her life.

Duvar, a dedicated member of the Brixton Wings Indoor Rowing Team, was honoured with the Individual Award for Achievement at Lambeth’s Sports Awards, held at Surrey Cricket Grounds. This award recognised his incredible performance at the London Youth Games (LYG), where Duvar won gold in indoor rowing this year, after securing silver last year.

This summer at Brixton Wings has been nothing short of amazing! Our 2024 Holiday Activities Programme (HAP) was packed with over 10 exciting activities that engaged and empowered our young participants, aged 9 to 16. From coding and crochet to football, water sports, and music, every session was designed to help our youth learn new skills and have a great time.

The participants of Brixton Wings’ Saturday School recently had the extraordinary opportunity to immerse themselves in the vibrant world of Sunshine International Arts.

Our Saturday School, generously sponsored by the National Grid, is a cornerstone of our early intervention efforts, offering a range of classes designed to nurture key competencies in maths, science, language, and critical thinking.

The Brixton Wings community had the incredible opportunity to participate in a six-week riding course offered by the esteemed Ebony Horse Club, and the impact of this experience has been nothing short of remarkable.
