AT Collective Unit 5 Pilot Workshop
11 March | 10:30am – 2:30pm
What We Did
On 11 March, the Angell Town Collective held the first Silverworks workshop. Silverworks is an Angell Town Collective initiative to create a new community space in Unit 5 at the Angell Town Enterprise Centre a place where local residents can get together, be creative, learn skills, and support one another.
The workshop brought together residents from Angell Town, members of the More Mature Group, the Angell Town Collective, and some people from Lambeth Council. The idea was simple: to share what Silverworks could be, and to hear from you about what you'd like it to become.
Visiting the Enterprise Centre
The day started with a visit to the Angell Town Enterprise Centre. Around 12 members of the More Mature Group came along to have a look at the building and hear about the plans for Unit 5.
A surveyor from Lambeth Council showed the group around and explained the work being done to get Unit 5 ready. It was a chance to see the space and start imagining what it could look like once it's open.
The Stitching Workshop
The workshop was originally planned to take place inside Unit 5, but as construction work was still being completed, the space wasn't quite ready on the day. Fortunately, Brixton Wings stepped in to host the session, meaning everything could go ahead without a hitch
We worked with Stitch School, who brought along a special stitching table for everyone to use together. With tea, coffee and snacks on hand, it was a relaxed and friendly afternoon.
As people stitched, they chatted, shared ideas, and got to know each other. Many members of the More Mature Group showed off brilliant stitching skills and talked about their love of crafts it was a real pleasure to see.
What You Told Us
During the session, residents shared some really valuable thoughts. A few key themes came up again and again:
A community space matters - people want somewhere on the estate they can regularly come together
Creative activities bring people together - crafts and making things side by side is a great way to connect
Feeling safe and welcome is essential - especially for older residents
It's about more than activities - it's about friendship, learning, and looking out for each other
Many people in the More Mature Group spoke about how much regular social contact means to them, and how a space like Silverworks could make a real difference to everyday life.
What Happens Next
This was just the beginning! The ideas and feedback shared on the day will help shape what Silverworks looks and feels like. Once Unit 5 is ready, we'll be holding more sessions there so you can experience the space for yourself and help decide how it runs.
Watch this space and thank you to everyone who came along and shared their thoughts. It really means a lot.
A Special Thank You
We'd also like to say a huge thank you to two key partners who helped make the day such a success.
To Stitch School thank you for bringing your wonderful stitching table and your expertise. You created exactly the warm, relaxed atmosphere we were hoping for, and it made a real difference to how people connected on the day.
To the representatives from Lambeth Council thank you for taking the time to come along, show residents around the Enterprise Centre, and explain the plans for Unit 5. Your presence helped make the project feel real and gave everyone confidence that this is genuinely moving forward.
